Only free software in coralEDA

The coralEDA ecosystem is an implementation of the good old UNIX idea of solving a problem by developing a collection of smaller, independent tools that are easy to use together, instead of trying to provide a large, monolithic, integrated solution. The elements of this ecosystem are shipped by various member projects, each developed independently (but in a coordinated manner).

Why this could work better than a monolithic approach is discussed in the EDA ecosystem proposal . That article focuses on the minimum that setting up and running such an ecosystem takes - coralEDA provides a bit more than the minimum.

There are manu ways to make development and use even more efficient, for example:

• using (and defining, if needed) common interchange formats between tools
• "cloud": offering indexed, searchable repositories for users to publish their footprints, symbols and resources in
• find what is missing, write a tool for that and join coralEDA.
