bedrock-rnd - license
Use-license and dist-license
All data files (footprints, symbols and devmap files) come with two licenses
as per use case:
- use-license: when bedrock-rnd data is embedded in a board file,
schematics file, the license for that piece of data is called
"unlimited", which means
creative commons CC0
or simply public domain (where that is applicable).
- dist-license: when bedrock-rnd data is handled or distributed
outside of board files and schematics files, in reusable library format,
the license on those files, whether they are verbatim or modified,
is the GNU GPL version 2 or later (see below)
Parametric footprints and symbols, generators and other scripts and programs
of bedrock-rnd are licensed under the GNU GPL version 2 or later (see below).
The output of all these scripts and programs are "unlimited"
(creative commons CC0
or simply public domain where that is applicable).
Links to the license files
For users: the license of the schematics and boards drawn using
symbols, footprints and devmaps from bedrock-rnd are not affected by
bedrock-rnd license because the use-license of the final symbols,
footprints and devmaps always turns into unlimited the moment the
data is embedded in the schematic or board file. However if footprint files,
schematics files, devmap files are distributed as a local copy in a directory
within a project (not embedded in sheets or boards), the dist-license
applies, which is more restrictive.
Contribution: by contributing, you agree to submit source/data files
and patches that are conforming to the license terms (e.g. don't copy random
code from other projects). We are keeping track of copyright (for any
substantial chunk of data/patch): each contributor holds the copyright
for and is responsible for their part. Contributors agree to license their
contribution under terms described in this document.
