I only use mark to measure things.
 
Having a mark where something was moved from might be useful if it stayed there long enough to move something else and snap to 
it's position.  So marking location of a drag start would not help if the next part to move in was dragged also...
 
We don't have enough standardization of centroids in footprints to make the mark universally useful as a location
of a substitute footprint.
 
So, dropping all "semi-automatic" marking would be fine by me.
