Subject: | [pcb-rnd] new: sch-rnd toolbar hotkey unification with pcb-rnd |
replies: | 5863 from Nicklas SB Karlsson <nk...@nksb.eu> |
Hi all, one of our important policies at Ringdove is that our applications should all look and behave similar (something gEDA never achieved but integrated tools typically have). Last week I've fixed a bug about this in sch-rnd: the F keys for the toolbar should match pcb-rnd's (where possible) in the default config. For example F4 activates the rectangle tool in both, F5 activates the text tool in both. There are some tricky cases, like if you press F2, you get the wire tool in sch-rnd, which is the most similar thing to pcb-rnd's line tool (assuming we most often use that for copper lines. This means the F keys don't simply map to the toolbar in sequential order from left to right, because different apps will have different tools in the toolbar. But if you get used to pressing F8 for the del tool, you won't need to change that habit when switching app. (If you want to memorize hotkeys now and you want an easier set, just open the Mode/Tool menu - the same tools can be accessed using two-stroke keys starting with 't' and it's usually easier to remember them that way.) If you use both pcb-rnd and sch-rnd and you find a hotkey for the same (or very similar) functionality that you use in both and differ, please let me know. Whenever reasonable, I will try to unify them, keeping older existing practice over new convention. Best regards, Igor2
