Subject: | [pcb-rnd] new padstack based via: tutorial video |
Hi all, a recent change is that we have padstack prototype for vias in the route style instead of two diameter values. This is a big change if you set up your vias on a per board basis. To help the transition, we have made a short, ~2 minutes video tutorial on how to create the simplest via geometry using the GUI in the new setup. https://archive.org/details/pcb-rnd-via_pstk1 This video was a nice collaboration: Majenko recorded the aduio and gabor edited the video. Now that the new mechanism is in place, there are a few corner cases I should describe: 1. if you load an old file (lihata <v8 or geda/pcb, those are the only files having route style support at the moment), your old diameter based description will be converted into padstack prototypes automatically. 2. if you save to an old format that has the old route style description, the code does a best effort conversion from your via padstack prototypes into old via diameters. If your via is not a simple, uniform, round via, the code generates the usual io compatibility error. 3. I forgot to mention in the original announcement another important use case: the padstack prototype stores bbvia top/bottom layer address, so having different bbvias connecting different layer ranges can be easiest done with per range styles. (Note: we do not yet export bbvias because we are waiting for a volunteer to test it on a real fab) Best regards Igor2
