Back then I didn't pin externs, which means I didn't hardwire the revision number of the external repo url at the time of tag creation. So a 2 years old tag tries to work from today version of the extern, which is usually a wrong thing to do. I started to pin with the previous few releases. Which means you don't have that error with recent tags, but old tags would break unless you check out externs at the right date/revisoon manually. This does not affect past release tarballs.
