Subject:[pcb-rnd] new layer groups: assembly, courtyard/keepout - schedule and mapping

Hi all,

Ade, Gabriel, cuvoodoo, I know at least you three started to use these
new, custom layer groups so please read this and answer before Friday.

(I'm sorry about the short deadline but if we want to get things done, we
need a schedule; at the end it will still take about 2 weeks to get the
basics done and new layer groups included in the default board file even
with this schedule)

Plan:

1. we collect data on existing practices (deadline: this Friday morning,
CET, so about 48 hours from now)

2. I will then propose new "standard" layer groups (and potentially some
changes on how our existing auto-generated assembly/fab layers work -
I'll do this on Friday)

3. the community revises/discusses the proposal (that's where the random
ideas should get in the system - deadline will be a few days, at most a
week)

4. I constantly upgrade the proposal using this feedback and I make the
final decisions so by the end the proposal will be the standard and
the design documentation for the new layer groups

5. I implement as much as possible in this cycle (there will be about one
week left of the cleanup phase for this, which should be enough for the
neccessary changes in the existing fab/assebmly layer generation).

So let the fun begin!

First round: if you already have drawn/generated at least 3 boards and/or
footprints where you used custom doc or mech layer groups, please list
them in a reply to this mail:

- layer group type

- layer group location

- layer group purpose

- how did you use the layer group: what kind of object did you place and
what did they represent

(I am after _existing practice_ now, so please do not answer if you did
not yet use such layer groups with pcb-rnd. Collecting general good ideas
will happen later.)

Best regards,

Igor2
